Founded in 1952 by Stan Martin, Valley Fire Control was built on a simple philosophy: deliver exceptional service, maintain the highest technical standards, and always do right by the customer. Those principles became the foundation of a company known throughout the region for its expertise in fire extinguishers, kitchen fire suppression systems, special hazards protection, industrial suppression systems, and marine fire protection.
Over the years, Valley Fire Control earned a reputation for technical excellence and dependable service, becoming a trusted partner for commercial, industrial, marine, healthcare, educational, government, and mission-critical facilities throughout Oregon.
Today, those same values continue to guide our company as we build on a legacy more than 70 years in the making.
A Legacy of Expertise
Following Stan Martin’s leadership, Valley Fire Control was acquired in 1999 by his sons, Clifford R. Martin and Michael J. Martin, who continued growing the company while preserving its commitment to customer service and technical excellence.
Cliff Martin remains actively involved with Valley Fire Control today as Legacy Advisor, providing technical leadership, training, and industry expertise throughout the organization. He serves on the NFPA 10 Technical Committee and remains involved in multiple industry advisory roles. His expertise continues to support Valley Fire Control’s engineered and pre-engineered fire suppression programs, including system design, calculations, and submittal preparation.
In 2021, Kyle Cox (NICET in Special Hazards) assumed leadership of daily operations as General Manager, helping guide the company’s continued growth while maintaining the values and customer relationships that have defined Valley Fire Control for generations. Today, Kyle continues to lead the Albany and Newport operations while driving strategic growth throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The next chapter in Valley Fire Control’s history began through a long-standing professional relationship between Cliff Martin and Aaron Dickens. Through years of involvement in industry organizations, including NAFED, the two developed mutual respect for one another’s reputation, technical knowledge, leadership style, and commitment to ethical business practices. As both organizations continued to grow, it became clear that joining forces would create greater opportunities for employees and customers alike.
In November 2025, Valley Fire Control became part of Columbia Safety Services, creating a stronger regional platform while preserving the culture, expertise, and customer-first approach that had made Valley Fire Control successful for decades.
With the combination of Valley Fire Control’s deep technical expertise with the resources and support of Columbia Safety Services, customers benefit from expanded capabilities, increased geographic coverage, enhanced training resources, and long-term organizational stability while continuing to work with the trusted professionals they know.

Brian Flechs
Principal · Sales & Project Management
Brian Flechs is a founding principal of FFF Protection, where he leads sales and project management. He has spent 23 years in fire protection, building a record of delivering projects on scope and on schedule while developing the customer and vendor relationships that sustain a service business over time.
Brian’s expertise spans project management, sales leadership, relationship management, and contract negotiation. He works directly with customers to define scope, structure pricing, and resolve issues that arise between bid and closeout. He also leads the internal teams responsible for project delivery.
Founding and growing FFF Protection ranks among Brian’s defining accomplishments. What began with three partners has become an established fire protection contractor in the Treasure Valley, with Brian’s work in sales and project execution central to that growth. FFF Protection is a trade name of Valley Fire Control, LLC, part of the Columbia Safety Services family of companies.
Looking ahead, Brian’s focus is on the continued growth of FFF Protection, Valley Fire Control, and Columbia Safety Services, while advancing standards of service and workmanship across the industry.
Outside of work, Brian enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, working on his properties, studying investment opportunities, and fishing.

Rebekah Flechs
Principal · Office Manager
Rebekah Flechs is a founding principal of FFF Protection and serves as its Office Manager, leading the administrative, accounting, and employee support functions behind the company’s field operations. FFF Protection is a trade name of Valley Fire Control, LLC, part of the Columbia Safety Services family of fire and life safety companies serving Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and surrounding markets.
Her work spans general office management, accounting, employee management, and direct support of technicians in the field. Rebekah serves as the link between the office and the crews—coordinating scheduling, billing, documentation, and the daily operations that determine whether work is completed, closed out, and invoiced on time.
Rebekah holds a bachelor’s degree in business and healthcare administration and brings five years of experience in the fire protection industry to a role that touches nearly every part of the business. As the company has grown, she has taken on additional responsibilities and continued to strengthen the way the office operates.
Her focus is supporting the continued expansion of FFF Protection, Valley Fire Control, and Columbia Safety Services while deepening her knowledge of the fire protection industry and the operational systems that support it.
Outside of work, Rebekah’s priorities are family and faith. She spends time with her family, cares for her dog and chickens, practices yoga and Pilates, and travels whenever she can.

Rick Fouts
Principal · Superintendent & Sales
Rick Fouts is a founding principal of FFF Protection and serves as Superintendent and Sales Manager, bringing 39 years of experience in the fire sprinkler industry. He came up through the trade and continues to apply a field-first perspective to how systems are installed, inspected, and serviced.
Rick spent his career as a fire sprinkler tradesman before moving into superintendence and sales. That background shapes how he scopes work, staffs jobs, and holds crews to a high standard. He understands that the quality of an installation ultimately determines whether a system performs when a building needs it.
Alongside his trade career, Rick served 20 years in the military—six years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and 14 years in the Air National Guard—before being honorably discharged. He earned an associate degree as a surgical technician through the United States Air Force, as well as a bachelor’s degree from Northwest Nazarene University.
The discipline and accountability developed through his military service continue to shape how Rick works.
Today, Rick’s focus is supporting the growth of FFF Protection, Valley Fire Control, and Columbia Safety Services, helping them remain vital and respected in the fire and life safety industry. Faith, family, and work are the foundation of everything Rick does. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and working on his properties.
